One morning back in the early fall of 1991 I was watching my daughter who was just a few months old. Since she was sleeping, I decided to put on “You Are The Universe” by Gilead Limor, and close my eyes on the couch.
Somewhere in the next few minutes I dozed off and entered the world between the winds. I remember being in the world of lucid dreaming . . . where you are completely aware of what’s happening even though you’re asleep.
The music I was listening to takes you on a voyage through time and space, across the universe, using only gentle galactic winds and synthesizers.
I suddenly found myself in a universe of pure, pure white . . . surrounded by flowing lines and ribbons of light and dark blue, green, magenta and purple, yellow, red and orange. The lines and ribbons were flowing through space at the same speed the winds move through the music. I could feel a peaceful yet powerful energy surrounding and uplifting me. The white light was so extremely bright and pure that it could only have been a glimpse of another dimension. This pure white light is the background of every painting that flows through me. The colors flowing past and around me were like wisps of energy. They are the only colors I use in my paintings.
The entire experience probably only lasted a fraction of a second, but it seemed like eternity. It was ethereal, supernatural, real.
This style found me, it was a gift from the universe.
This experience moved me so deeply that I try to touch it still through the synesthetic experience.
